Glue Down and Floating Installation
Luxury vinyl tile, sometimes referred to simply as LVT flooring, has grown popular because of its natural looks and supreme durability. LVT flooring is engineered to look like natural wood, stone, or tile, but with increased wear resistance. We at McCall’s Carpet One offer premium brands such as IVC and Shaw.
LVT flooring can be installed with the glue down or the floating method. For the glue down method, the vinyl tiles are glued down to the floor with a special adhesive. The type of adhesive can vary by brand, but each adhesive is made for a permanent and durable installation. LVT flooring can only be glued down to certain underlayments such as wood, concrete, or ceramic.
The floating method is sometimes called the click method since the tiles click together. The tiles are not directly attached to the underlayment, so no adhesive is required. As a result, the floating method can be used to install LVT flooring over most existing floors, except for carpet, laminate, and other floating floors. The floating method is practical when the underlayment is difficult to prepare (maybe because of unevenness), since the adhesive would be less likely to bond.
LVT flooring installation, even with the floating method, can be difficult, so we recommend relying on a team of professionals. So, if you’re looking to make LVT the choice for your next project, be sure to visit our Franklin, TN store.
